SUMMER WORKOUT REWARDS!

As our first blog post, I thought it would be good to jump right into what we’ve been doing this summer; we held multiple plyometric workouts with our lacrosse athletes and one of our track athletes -- their commitment to the program was impressive and rewarding for me, as a coach.

A typical plyometric workout consisted of broad jumps, single leg hops, double leg hops, 30 meter runs over wickets (mini-hurdles about 1 foot in height and approximately 6 feet apart, which will vary in distance apart depending on how old, tall and fast your athletes are).

As the summer progressed, we added sled pulls, with a harness/vest, and weight consisting of 10-15% of the athlete’s body weight; the athletes really enjoyed these because they could feel the resistance immediately and it required them to work to pull the sled at speeds they normally consider easy, but they found challenging.

Our lacrosse players will see the benefits of their summer work very soon when their college lacrosse workouts will begin when they get back to school ….

For our high school track athlete who kept training and racing this summer after the spring season ended – he saw the rewards of his work come as he set 2 personal records and began to hear from college track coaches interested in recruiting him.

Enjoy what’s left of the summer and plan for new victories in the fall!
